Sevaka Ratnam Sadhu Kuppuswamy - Founding Father of TISI Sangam
The story of Sangam began in 1912, when Sadhu Kuppuswamy, a young man from Tamil Nadu, arrived in Fiji as an indentured laborer. Disturbed by the struggles of fellow South Indians with language barriers, loss of culture, and religious suppression, he became a powerful voice for unity and justice.
In 1926, with support from local leaders, he helped form the Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam (TISI Sangam). As its first and lifelong President, he traveled across Fiji, founding schools, temples, and promoting the Tamil language and spiritual freedom. His lifelong service earned him the title “Sevaka Ratnam”, meaning "Jewel of Service."
Today, TISI Sangam continues its legacy, serving communities across Fiji through education, culture, and spiritual guidance.
To preserve and promote our cultural legacy while building a compassionate and inclusive future. We honor the past by serving in the present, with a firm belief that humanity thrives when we care for one another beyond the boundaries of race, religion, or social status.
To extend beyond cultural celebration. We are committed to driving real, meaningful impact locally in the United States and globally in Fiji, through a variety of initiatives that address today's most pressing challenges. Our efforts are anchored in empathy, guided by integrity, and powered by collective action.
We believe in One Sangam. One Family. One Purpose.
United, we are creating an improved world rooted in the principles of our forebears and fueled by commitment, togetherness, and compassion.
Join us in continuing this legacy.
